REVIEW: EVERYTHING MUST GO

EVERYTHING MUST GO
dr. Dan Rush
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3656297/

Everything Must Go is my kind of film.
I can imagine a lot of people disliking it, though the reviews are decent. For starters, its slowly paced and in a way where it feels like not a lot is going on despite the dramatic nature of the story. But given that Lost In Translation is my favourite film, that I can live with. EMG does a fine job of overstepping cliches and finding a good balance between humour and misery (take note The Beaver). Will Ferrell is largely to thank for the latter, merely for his facial expressions and comic timing, in a part that suits him perfectly. The film deals best with the relationships between Ferrell and the other characters and manages to keep from being over sentimental .
It may be forgettable and the ending may lack, but the Rush's great balance of mood and tone along with a string of strong performances put a smile on my face.

OVERALL: It's not the film it could have been but rather a intimate and enjoyable affair anchored by an essential Will Ferrell performance and flawed human characters.

RANDOM: MINIMALIST POSTERS

MINIMALIST POSTERS
http://minimalmovieposters.tumblr.com/archive

This a great little website full of minimalist posters which personally I find a lot more impressive than the average movie poster (unless it's Soderbergh). One of my favourites is the Up poster (above) and the archive is full of other great ones, there are even great posters for terrible movies! (50 First Dates) if only Hollywood had the balls to use them for their movie marketing campaigns, if only.

TRAILER: OUR IDIOT BROTHER

OUR IDIOT BROTHER
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1637706/

With the likes of Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones, Zooey Deschanel, Adam Scott, Steve Coogan and many more, Our Idiot Brother can't really go wrong. It worries me that Jesse Peretz's last film was The Ex but he was also responsible for the Foo Fighters Big Me and Learn To Fly videos so it goes both ways. The trailer is strong and not overly quirky and I can't think of anyone better to play Ned than Paul Rudd himself.

TRAILER: THE DESCENDANTS

THE DESCENDANTS
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1033575/

Alexander Payne could make anything after Sideways and I would watch it but it helps that The Descendants trailer is promising and that it's co-written by none other than Jim 'Dean Pelton' Rash.

REVIEW: CRAZY STUPID LOVE

CRAZY STUPID LOVE
dr. Glenn Ficarra and John Requa
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1570728/

THE CRAZY
  • The fact that the word crazy appears in the film's title (it's a very ordinary film)

THE STUPID
  • Massive character development that comes from nowhere.
  • Poor pacing and very few good one-liners.
  • The self-deprecating cliche moments.
  • Kevin Bacon's face + the annoying kid and his plot lines and stupid hair.
THE LOVE
  • EMMA STONE.
  • The twist in the final third.
  • Did i mention Emma Stone?

OVERALL: not as clever as it thinks it is.

TRAILER: THE SITTER

THE SITTER
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1366344/

Read the script for this a couple of months back and enjoyed it. It was amusing and well written but from the look of the trailer it doesn't look like it carried over too well. But then again it could just be the marketing like Rise of the Apes. Stupid, stupid marketing.
