RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

Rise of the Planet of the Apes biggest flaw is that it is badly marketed. The trailer for instance makes it look like every other drab bad blockbuster movie that's shelled out every couple of months when in fact it's better. Not much better, though, just far more memorable and slightly more original than say I Am Number Four or Green Lantern. The film has it's flaws, for one James Franco is likable but slightly wooden and Draco Malfoy's American accent is pretty sloppy, the dialogue as well isn't great. Ultimately, the film's saving grace is what I thought would ultimately ruin it: the apes.
For one the apes look real, take not Tim Burton. Similarly the storyline and origin is far more interesting than Burton's 2001 film and unlike other blockbusters the action is second to the story. Even the ending sets it apart from other blockbusters, it may seem sentimental but at least its not a weak foreseen cliffhanger. The various hints at a sequel throughout the film are tastefully done and even if we know where the film is heading it's a decent journey.
OVERALL: the film breaths new life into a dead franchise with a solid script and fine CGI, and doesn't belittle its audience making for a fine blockbuster.
